About this painting

This painting was started on Easter Sunday in 2016.  I went to Woodford Square to paint in the evening light again.  I set up my easel and canvas and started to paint.  The time was exactly 5:05 pm when I started.  Now remember this was the height of the kite season so I was fighting with the wind that kept threatening to blow over my canvas, no matter how much big stones I used to keep it down.  By about 5:15 pm, the fight was over.  I took a few steps back so I could look at my progress and that was when a sudden gust of wind came and blew everything right over.  Realising the battle was lost, I packed up and went home to finish it.  I'm glad I did though, it allowed me to be truly free and paint what I felt was most memorable about the scene, without being a slave to what I was seeing in front of me.  So you can see the freedom with the choice of colours and you can also see the typical happenings of Woodford Square - the guys playing chess, the street dweller taking a nap, another guy relaxing on the bench and even the stray dog.
